PSB Letter to SBD Owners

Sandbridge Dunes will be Impacted by Kitty Hawk Wind Project

Dear Homeowners,

We knew it would just be a matter of time before Avangrid would start gearing up again to obtain Virginia Beach City Council approval for the Sandbridge landfall easements.  Please see the attached flyer from Avangrid. It is sad that we have only been given a few days' notice prior to the first meetings, giving us little time to coordinate a collective response.

All communities along the proposed routes, particularly the Dunes, will be impacted by the construction and operation of the Kitty Hawk Wind Projects, not to mention possible risks to property values, Back Bay Wildlife Refuge, and higher utility bills and taxes.  Protect Sandbridge Beach (PSB) has been working for many months to highlight these issues and concerns and get answers to questions that all impacted stakeholders should be aware of.

PSB wants to be clear, we are not against responsible renewable energy solutions, including offshore wind and we support the region's goal to make Hampton Roads an offshore wind hub.  However, these goals have nothing to do with landing Avangrid's offshore cables onto Sandbridge Beach and coming through your neighborhoods to Corporate Landing and further to Landstown substations.

We are happy to share any research and information we have gathered over the past year, including a viable alternative through Kitty Hawk, North Carolina to connect to the electric grid.  Without a major challenge, this project will likely move forward, negatively impacting our building, property values, neighborhoods, and coastal way of life for years to come.

Please join us by helping to mobilize family, friends and neighbors all over Virginia Beach, including those outside of our respective communities to show up at these meetings, write and/or call VB City Council and let them know how you feel and get your questions and concerns addressed.  YOUR VOICE NEEDS TO BE HEARD.

Attached please find the Avangrid flyer announcing the dates and times for "Information Nights" on the project and a copy of Community Issues and Concerns.

THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW!

Thank You!
